But that’s not the topic for today’s post. The topic is that we want to welcome Miriam in our community!

Miriam will work on the integration of twitter (and in general in the integration of additional data services) in mixare, this will be the theme of her Thesis at the faculty of computer science of the free University of Bolzano.

She has been given rights to manage the Issue tracker queue and will use it as a roadmap for her efforts, so if you have some proposals or bug reports report it there (or star an existing issue so that it gets more priority).

We expect to release a new version of mixare in the market (and in the svn repository) shortly that will be faster, more polished and … better!

Hearthly welcome Miriam!

The future looks bright http://www.mixare.org/2010/04/the-future-looks-bright/ http://www.mixare.org/2010/04/the-future-looks-bright/#respond Thu, 22 Apr 2010 16:09:34 +0000 http://www.mixare.org/?p=514 Read More →]]> We have great news to announce! Yesterday evening Peer GmbH and R3 GIS GmbH from Merano chose to join their efforts to help mixare grow at even a faster pace.
The expertise of R3 GIS about Geographic Information Systems, Digital Terrain Models, and GPS knowledge is a perfect fit for the User Experience knowledge of Peer internet solutions.
The companies agreed on a concrete roadmap for the next few months, that is listed below:

bugfixes

  • download retries
  • GPS fix
  • various Nullpointer exceptions fixes

Improvements

  • Compass precision: investigation of possible corrections / datasources
  • Compass correction by the means of accelerometer readings?
  • GPS precision (altitude): investigation of possible corrections / datasources
  • GPS precision (overall): integration of DGPS services? WAAS? Other possible services
  • Integration with high precision DTM (Digital Terrain Model) and visibility analysis
  • Marker display enhancements related to precision and distance
  • Additional handling of polylines and polygons
  • Additional standardized data-format support (XML based)
  • User Interface enhancements: menu support, better feedback to the user
  • Warnings in case of issues with data reliability (magnetic field distortions, old/wrong GPS fix). Maybe a diagnostic mode for advanced users?
  • Social network integration: twitter with support for login, timeline, lists, search. Maybe send geotagged tweets?
  • Support for local data sources (not in terms of URI, but rather collection of POIs)

R3 GIS GmbH and Peer GmbH are committed to open source. The project keeps its GPLv3 license, all code contributions will be put in the public repository and the discussion will happen in the public development mailing list, so that everyone is able to chime in and participate.

We are thrilled to see the mixare community grow, and that companies with great expertise join the project!

Good news, bad news http://www.mixare.org/2010/03/good-news-bad-news/ http://www.mixare.org/2010/03/good-news-bad-news/#comments Fri, 19 Mar 2010 16:17:14 +0000 http://www.mixare.org/?p=309 Read More →]]> Good news first: three new apps are now in the market, and they use mixare to show data entered by a team of professionals. One is for South Tyrol (Italy), one for Trentino (Italy) and one for Tyrol (Austria). (see screenshot)

Unfortunately we have also some bad news to report: we tried hard but we will not manage to release the sources by today. We are forced to pospone it until monday, but we promise that you’ll get them by then! 🙂

Back to the good news! We published in the Google Code wiki the instructions to put your own data in mixare!
Please leave a comment about your experiments, we hope you are excited as we are!

Mixare is in the market! http://www.mixare.org/2010/03/mixare-is-in-the-market/ http://www.mixare.org/2010/03/mixare-is-in-the-market/#respond Fri, 19 Mar 2010 09:49:47 +0000 http://www.mixare.org/?p=295 Read More →]]> A very short post to announce that mixare is in the market worldwide (since yesterday evening, actually).

Just search for “mixare” in the android market or follow this link if you are browsing from your mobile.

The data that you’ve seen in the video demo are taken from the touristic portal suedtirolerland.it. If you search for suedtirolerland in the android market (or follow this link) you can get the application and see the data. Of course you’ll see something only if you are in South Tyrol.
